Steve VerBurg, President Of Dale Carnegie of Orange County spoke at the 3rd Annual Creating Healthy Organizations Conference. Steve facilitated a Dale Carnegie-style workshop on how to “Communicate to Lead at Every Level.”.
This conference hosted by Vanguard University provided attendees with several insights to create healthy organizations. Participants were able to select from topic-based tracks, focused on business and not-for-profit applications. Those who attended the Dale Carnegie workshop were also got SHRM continuing education credits for their participation.

Communicate to Lead at Every Level Workshop
The workshop was focused on tips and techniques to help leaders build strong relationships and earn willing cooperation from others. Participants examined the responsibility of leaders to enhance communication and build bridges of understanding.
First, VerBurg started off the workshop with experiential exercises based on linear and interactive communication. These exercises highlighted the effect that internal and external filters have on listening. Then, the workshop was to build a “Listening Ladder” with techniques to help increase listening skills.
The workshop’s focus was to build relationships and create trust by asking questions. Finally, the group examined the Dale Carnegie Human Relationship principles to build rapport, gain cooperation, and lead without resistance.
